Ruben Nieto: Re-Contextualizing The Comic Book
My process consists of me finding images in comic books and then transforming them on my computer. It takes me about 40 hours. I get the entire concept down and then get my team to work on it. It is like a paint by numbers when I give it to them. I want to get to the point where I don’t have to touch it. It is important to me that I am the one in charge. The image is mine
Ginger Valentine – Queen of the Striptease
Making her mark on the burlesque scene with her classic striptease and pinup looks, Ginger Valentine brings sexy back with a vengeance. Recently, winning the crown, Queen of Burlesque, at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, this vivacious mover-shaker is not slowing down. I sat down with Ms. Valentine recently at the Belmont Hotel with photographer Jarrod Fresquez to learn more about this sultry bombshell

Sour Grapes Retrospective – The Wonder Years
Rising Gallery is all a buzz with the new exhibition, Wonder Years, works by graffiti collective SourGrapes13. The surprise guest star of the show is Boog Brown, aninternational tattoo artist who paints as well. A few nights ago, Boog was down at Rising Gallery painting a large panel piece for the show. This work features his stylized lettering, sexy Latin lady with a rose in her hair and a single tear rolling down her cheek. The word, SourGrapes, at the top of the piece in Boog’s trademark style, and FAMILIA, in banner form at the bottom, illustrates the bonds he has with this art collective. There is no doubt after viewing his work and chatting with him about his worldwide acclaim, Boog is a badass

I had the pleasure of attending Kettle Art, ‘Forces of Nature’, opening one hot Thursday night. The exhibition features works from 6 women artists and their interpretation on the theme. What happens after the fire, the sensual cacti, and the joyful celebration of life caught my attention and brought me in for a closer look at this exhibition

Courtney Crave – Fetish Meets PinUp A-Go-Go
Hot burlesque at a lesbian bar? Why haven’t they thought of this sooner? Friday night I checked out Sexy-Mic Comedy & Burlesque to see Courtney Crave in action. Her smokin’ hot number to Def Leopard’s, ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me’, had the women up on their feet begging for more. It mixed good old fashioned stripper sensibility with bombshell burlesque attraction. So hot sticky sweet.
