Getting Down and Turned On: Pornography and Society Today

Apr 22nd, 20105 Comments

We are here, we are horny, and our perversions are pushing the envelope of sexual boundaries. Better get used to it. The best place to start the discussion is defining what is porn, erotica, or obscenity in our culture today.

Joseph W. Slade authored Pornography in America: A Refence Manual, here’s an excerpt I copied from Frontlines American Porn article The Definition of Pornography by Joseph Slade

“Pornography” (or “porn”) usually refers to representations designed to arouse and give sexual pleasure to those who read, see, hear, or handle them. Although sexual stimulation would seem to be a splendid goal, it is not always so regarded in a society still characterized as puritanical. Opponents often avoid dealing with the benefits of arousal in favor of attributing unflattering motives to makers of pornography, whereas producers of pornography themselves may cloud matters by insisting that their materials are educational rather than deliberately stimulating. Because arguments over sexual expression mask issues of politics, religion, gender, race, class and (above all) sexuality, irrelevant claims and assertions are not merely typical but seemingly essential to any discussion of pornography. At times, the confusion seems a deliberate means of demonizing enemies, achieving political advantage, or making a profit.”

There are many arguments on exactly how we should define porn.  However, I think our culture, politics and worldview play a role in how we as individuals define porn, erotica, or obscene.  I have a theory that it is our guilt or shame which makes one more socially acceptable and another as subversive and obscene.  When you add politics into the discussion the lines begin to become black and white as it tries to juxtapose up against a billion dollar a year industry. The criminalization of porn and what we are “allowed” to as a society indulge our sexual deviances are called out and judged. This means you Bill sitting there at your computer screen watching that dude being cuckold by a Domme. The BBC has an article regarding this debate, When Does Kinky Porn Become Illegal.  I am not advocating rapists and their freedom to rape whomever they want. Information exists on both sides of this debate. Michael Castleman published an article on Psychology Today, Does Pornography Cause Social Harm, providing statistics showing the decline of sexual irresponsibility since the explosion of porn.

It baffles me that in our “free world” sexual freedom continues to be oppressed. This extends not only to the porn industry, but also to our gay, lesbian and transgender community. Today, consensual homosexual acts between adults are illegal in about 70 out of the 195 countries of the world; in 40 of these, only male-male sex is outlawed. (Sodomy Law Reference) Our culture is evolving and expanding. These antiquated laws and beliefs are begging not only a second look but radical re-organization of how we as a society are going to handle this thing called “porn” or sexual deviance or whatever label you require that fall under the heading, “subversive acts”.

“Pornography manages to penetrate to the marrow of who we are as a culture and as psyches”

Let that quote resonate a minute. It does not matter if you are opposed or in support of pornography, those words reveal what is more true about who we are as humans. Linda Kipnis published an article on Frontlines American Porn site, The Eloquence of Pornography which discusses how our values are linked to how we perceive pornography and yet many of us are drawn to it like moths to a flame. She delves into the psychology of pornography. When you mix that with how we are raised, our personal experiences, our values, and all the little things that make us an individual a broader perspective is required to see the full picture of this thing called porn and our desire to indulge our senses with it. I agree that we need to grasp a greater understanding of the full picture before we run around judging other and criminalizing this industry. This requires a more integral approach.

For me personally, porn has been something I have enjoyed for many years. Most of those years, it was enjoyed in secret. I am not addicted, nor do I sit around for hours “jacking off” obsessively to porn. In other words, it is not an addiction for me. In recent years, I have begun to own my love of porn. I moderately indulge my senses in a variety of porn. Some of it pushing the envelope of what would be socially acceptable in mixed company. It is empowering for me as a woman. It is a way for me to indulge my masculine side; which is a dominant part of me as a woman. I am not like all the other girls who are playful and free as women. Being a woman is a bit complicated. Growing up with 5 boys with little parental supervision and being the only girl, gave me a more masculine worldview. When I watch male to female porn, I am not getting turned on by the man, nor is the man turning me off. I am the man in that porno. I am completely owning it.

What are your thoughts on this subject of pornography and acceptable behavior?

For those of you interested in indulging your perversions, I have a few NOT SAFE FOR WORK EVER links to share with you.

Crashpad Series
This is where I began to have a constant finger boner for Jiz Lee. It is an indie lesbian porn site. It is a series based porn site where the characters pass around keys to a “crash pad” for anonymous sex in a San Francisco apartment, which is filmed from a voyeuristic point of view. This is porn made by women of all types and a lot of women of color. I love the intensity of the women having sex with each other. It is real and you can feel it.

Buck Angel
This is the man with a pussy. Enough said.

Devine Bitches
The best FemDom site on the web, and then some! I love this site run by a super-sexy powerful woman, her dominating sexy female cohorts, and the handsome men they erotically torture — they train houseboys, and sometimes play a wicked game of “bend over boyfriend” to finish the scene. Very high production values, and the men really get punished — with clear consent. Fans of the “clothed female, naked male” fetish will love this, and while it’s a pay site, it has plenty of explicit free porn to get you going. Also, this is where Bill indulges his Cuckolding fantasies. Whore!

Ultimate Surrender
This is where women wrestle violently and the winners fuck the losers… HARD! Something about women being violent and having sex.  So hot!

Youporn
This is a great free resource of porn. It has all kinds of porn. Mostly women masturbating and male to female porn. There are tons of other kinks, but I find the best on there are your typical everyday kind of porn.

Porn and I grew up together. We were childhood buddies. And after all this time, we're still very close. I'll always support my friend porn; and my friend porn will always give me a boner. The girls of porn are the best. Come on girls, group hug (and sex).
